Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak sliced thinly against the grain
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil for stir-frying
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil for flavor
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger minced
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon of water or beef broth for moisture

Method

  1. Prepare the beef by thinly slicing the flank steak against the grain.
  2. Marinate the beef in a mixture of soy sauce, cornstarch, and half the garlic and ginger.
  3. While the beef marinates, prepare the broccoli by washing and cutting it into bite-sized florets.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat until it shimmers.
  5. Add the marinated beef to the hot pan in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes without stirring.
  6. Stir-fry the beef until browned and cooked through, then remove from the pan and set aside.
  7. In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed and toss in the remaining garlic, ginger, and broccoli florets.
  8. Stir-fry the broccoli for 2-3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender yet crisp.
  9. Return the beef to the pan, add in the oyster sauce, sesame oil, and a splash of water or broth, if desired.
  10. Toss everything together for an additional minute to ensure the beef and broccoli are coated in sauce.
